Acne Medicine Blamed For Murder?
This story is a little dated (2007) but I just stumbled upon it today and found it very interesting.
Apparently, a teenager named John Mullarkey murdered a pretty girl named Demi Cuccia. This kid stabbed the girl 16 times. His defense, claiming acne medicine altered his state of mind, didn’t hold up. He was found guilty of murder in the first degree and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The jury took less than an hour to decide on the verdict.
I don’t know why people don’t try quality Skin Care Products instead of the (possibly harmful) medications. the jury didn’t believe Accutane caused him to kill this female.
All this nonsense about Accutane — the Boogeyman — and diminished capacity,” Mr. Tranquilli said, referring to the defense’s argument that Mr. Mullarkey became depressed after quitting the acne drug, “that’s a bunch of malarkey.
What’s interesting is that shortly after the trial, Accutane was going to be taken off the market. The judge denied a motion by the defense stating that Accutane was being pulled because of financial reasons by the company and not because of any psychological effects the drug may have on it’s users.
Victim Demi’s mother said the accused showed no remorse.
I couldn’t imagine someone being capable of what he did and having no emotion about it,” she said.
